What Is Laser Dentistry?

The term LASER is an acronym for ‘Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation’. Laser dentistry is a branch of dentistry that utilizes laser technology to diagnose and treat various dental conditions.
- Precision: Laser technology allows for extremely precise and targeted treatment, which can minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
- Minimized Discomfort: Laser procedures often result in less pain and discomfort for the patient, reducing the need for anesthesia in some cases.
- Faster Healing: The use of lasers can promote faster tissue healing and reduce the risk of infection due to their ability to sterilize and seal blood vessels and nerve endings.
- Reduced Bleeding: Lasers can coagulate blood vessels during surgery, reducing bleeding during and after procedures.
- Minimal Swelling: Laser treatments typically result in less post-operative swelling compared to traditional methods.
- Versatility: Lasers can be used for a variety of dental procedures, including cavity preparation, gum disease treatment, soft tissue surgeries, teeth whitening, and more.
Soft tissue Laser can be used for
- Healing of aphthous Ulcers
- Depigmentation of gums
- Teeth whitening
- Frenectomies
- Removal of Tongue tie
- Operculectomy
- Root Canal Disinfection
- Excisional and incisional biopsies
- Hemostasis
- Sulcular debridement
- Root Canal Disinfection and
- TMJ Pain Management
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) LLLT stands for Low-Level Laser Therapy, and it is a medical treatment that uses low-level lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate tissue repair, reduce pain and inflammation, and promote healing. LLLT is also known as photo biomodulation therapy or cold laser therapy. It is used for a variety of Dental procedures:
- treatment of oral ulcers,
- cold sores, and
- post-surgical pain.
- It can also be used in periodontal therapy to promote gum tissue healing
- It accelerates tissue healing and reduces inflammation
